Zongpu Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The naming section is located on both banks of the Zongpu River ~4 km northeast of the seat of Gamba County, Tibet. Named by Wen Shixuan in 1974.
Lithology and Thickness
The Zongpu Formation is marked by strata consisting predominantly of limestone. It is divided into two members: Lower member is gray, compact-massive limestone, 78 m thick; Upper member is gray, compact-massive and nodular limestone with thin-bedded marlstone, 158 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably overlies quartz sandstone of the Paleocene Jidula Fm.
Upper contact
Conformably underlies shale at the base of the Eocene Zhepure Fm.
Regional extent
It is widespread in Gamba, Dingri, Dinggyê and Yadong, being 383 m thick in Gamba, 186 m thick in Tingri and 210 m thick in Yadong.

Fossils
There are abundant fossils, including foraminifera, ostracods, gastropods, bivalves, brachiopods, echinoids, corals and algae. The lower member contains the foraminifera assemblage Rotalia-Lockhartia assemblage, whose representative elements are Rotalia hensoni, Lockhartia conditi and Keramosphaera tergestina; gastropods are also very rich in this member, mainly including Confusiscala indica and Campanile brevius. The upper member contains the foraminifera Miscellanea-Daviesina-Operculina assemblage, whose representative elements are Miscellanea micella, Daviesina khatiyahi and Operculina canalifera.

Depositional setting
The Zongpu Formation is monotonous in lithology, consisting of carbonate rocks, and contains highly varied and rich fossils, belonging to near-shore, shoal to open platform stable-type deposits.
